Readers have their heads in books because each new story holds a new destination and there is no time to be taken of course.
A good book is like a good cup of coffee for me. You just can’t get enough and you look forward to each encounter. When I was younger, I was able to do all-nighters to finish my current literary obsession and go to class the next day. Can’t do that quite so much now. While I’m not getting through scores of books nearly as fast as before, I still make time for a good story. My wish list is pages long with titles that I hope will be the next one to captivate me.
In looking for my next read, there are books that have a permanent spot on my shelf. If there is anything avid readers must have, one should be a printed collection and two, a printed collection with classics. Below are some of my favorite classical tales that have a forever home on my shelf.
The Grimm Fairy Tales, Brothers’ Grimm
Dracula, Bram Stoker
Metamorphoses, Ovid
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, Patrick Süskind
The Iliad & the Odyssey, Homer
Little Women, Louisa May Alcott
The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
Paradise Lost, John Milton
Inferno, Dante Alighieri
King Lear, Shakespeare
