“Life is available only in the present moment. If you abandon the present moment, you cannot live the moments of your daily life deeply.”

~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Romanticizing life has grown in popularity as many retreat from the mad dash of modern life, reevaluate what’s important in life, and how they want to live better. Romanticization fosters living well and creating a beautiful life. Finding what means the most, brings delight, serves intention, and doing more of that. It encompasses beauty, wonder, and adventure, the very things that make life wonderful, so how can it not lead to better living.

But what can we do to do more of it? How can one romanticize their life every day? There are a variety of ways from the marvelous to the simple. As the every day is filled with small moments that compose life, this post will look at the simple that leads to contentment in romanticizing life.

Start Your Day with Gratitude

Practicing gratitude is an excellent way to get your day started. It fosters mindfulness that instills awareness that reminds you of the good and encourages hope. Appreciation is important to gain contentment and see the beauty in your life. Nurturing a spirit of gratefulness opens you up to love life and for life to be better than you think it is.

Meditate

Take a moment for quiet meditation. Do this at the height of your day; so, if you are a morning person, meditate first thing in the morning. If you are an evening person, meditate before bed. This will help silence your mind and align your thoughts, grounding you in the present. I like to pair meditation and bible devotion. Whatever your spiritual practice, this is a great time to pair it with meditation.

Have a Warm Beverage

I don’t know what it is about beginning the day with a warm beverage. There’s something innately comforting and meditative. So, whether you’re a tea, coffee, or even a hot cocoa person, try beginning your day with a warm beverage. To make it more of a mindful work, I would encourage you to make your drinks by hand—no automation, when you have the time. For my fellow coffee drinkers, this might mean using a cloth strainer and pots on the stove.

Change Clothes and Get Ready for the Day

While wearing something nice every day would be wonderful the truth is that sometimes we don’t want to dress up every day and that’s okay. What we should make an effort to do is change our clothes and get ready for the day. Even if you are just changing into fresh pajamas, put on a new set of garments, freshen your face, and do your hair. With this simplest habit, you are, essentially, presenting yourself to the day.

Journal with a Fountain or Feather Pen

I really love the feel of pen to paper and there’s something organic about using a fountain or feather pen. Open your journal and write about the things that come to mind, your hopes, your plans, and even some of your worries. Put it all down on paper. Go the extra mile and incorporate affirmations and journal prompts in our daily journal activities.

Go After Your Goals

Part of the wonder, adventure, and beauty of a romanticized life is being able to go after the things you want. Being able to have dreams and go after them, is truly a luxury. It’s taking things a step beyond purpose to passion. Marrying the two together fosters a go-getter spirit to meet your goals big and small.

Make a Homecooked Meal

When you’re caught up in the fast-paced grind of the modern day, the thought of a homecooked meal can be tiring and overwhelming, but the act of making a meal from scratch is such a romantic and intimate thing, even if it’s just for yourself. You create something beautiful, delicious, and give love back to yourself or a loved one.

Read in a Comfy Spot

We see the images of readers in comfy chairs, but let’s be honest, not all of us read in chairs. I like the floor and a blanket leaning up on a chair, wall, or even my bed frame. So whatever spot you find comfortable, get yourself a warm beverage, a blanket, and curl up with a good read.

Bring in Life with a Bouquet of Flowers

Bringing living things into your space is one of the best ways to bring life to your environment. There is a refreshing, inspiration, and brightness that enters with a beautiful bouquet. Visit your local flower shop or even the grocery store to find a lovely bouquet. You can even spice it up by ordering flowers like a gift to yourself.

Set Clear Boundaries

Romance isn’t always pretty. Sometimes it involves setting boundaries with yourself and others. Setting boundaries may be hard but it is healthy and can help you in the process of creating and living a beautiful life.

Take a Walk

Yes, go outside. Don’t take for granted a good walk. Not only do you get your movement for the day, but you also get an increase in positive feelings. Walk around your neighborhood, a nearby park, or even go out and explore hiking trails.

Create Something Beautiful

Nothing enhances living a beautiful life like creating something beautiful. This tangible and focused task is intentional. A purposed search for something good and beautiful. You have the chance to make something new or be surprised by nature’s art.

Creating something beautiful can lead to a release of negative feelings, restore appreciation and marvel for the world, and foster self-confidence and good self-esteem. You can gain the ability to find beauty wherever you are and bolster the art of turning the mundane into something extraordinary.

Set Your Atmosphere with Classical Music

As an orchestra nerd, I highly believe that instrumental music is for everyone and if you haven’t found any music to enjoy, you just need to keep sifting through artists and genres until you find one that resonates with you.

Check-In with Yourself

Creating a beautiful life and living well doesn’t mean living haphazardly. There are checkpoints, plan adjustments, and pivots that are included. It’s important to do self-audits. Compare your position at the start and end of the day. How did you feel? Did you make strong strides towards a goal you want to achieve? Regularly check in on how you’re doing to learn what you need to do next.

End the Day with a Delicious Dessert

End the day on a good note. If you have been around the blog long enough, you know I have a serious sweet tooth and love a good dessert. I firmly believe a good dessert (really any good meal) can turn around a day. So, get a spoon or fork and end the day on a sugar high. Dessert is for the heart.
