“Make happiness a priority and be gentle with yourself in the process.”

~ Bronnie Ware

During the month of February, we hear a lot about love, particularly romantic for couples and platonic for friends. There’s Valentine’s and Galentine’s, but what about Solotine’s. It is being shared how to show love to everyone else. What about yourself?

Love is a delicate philosophy. Many labels and conditions get put on it, but you cannot forget that love is love’s own reward and it has it’s own special portrait for every person. So how does love paint it’s portrait of you? Be it big or small, there are many ways you can show yourself a little more love. Let’s start with these eight.

Think Lovely Thoughts

Did your mind go to Peter Pan? I promise that’s not where this comes from, but the idea still applies. By thinking lovely thoughts, they were able to fly using pixie dust. An underlying belief made it possible. The same is true for us. Your thoughts are powerful and you should think more kindly of yourself.

Reserve Time to Rest

It’s easy to forget to take a break, to take a nap. Rest is often put on the back burner, but rest is essential. It’s okay to rest.

Take the Trip

You deserve it! Vacation or staycation, you need the time to renew, refresh, and relax. The longer you wait, the next thing you’ll know it will be five years later and you haven’t been on one vacation. Even if you have to go solo, just go.

Go to a Wellness Spa

Go somewhere that you can cared for and pampered. Wellness spas are wonderful for holistic experiences and you can find one to suit your needs. Bonus hearts if you can see your medical professional or therapist before heading off.

Take Yourself on a Date

Put on your favorite clothes, slip on a pair of shoes you love, get dolled up and go out. Experience something new or go to your favorite place. Do something that treats you.

Have a Nice Meal

A good meal is a cure all for everything and a lovely meal is like a warm Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, make it extra special.

Check-In with Yourself

Consider this doing a self-audit. Love is not always sunshine and rainbows and that is true for self-love. It’s important to reflect, assess, and hold yourself accountable. See how you’re doing in life aspects. It may be hard, but be objective about the process and don’t beat yourself up. Put away the guilt or shame. Acknowledge your goals, growth and your current position to them. Once you do, reset, rewrite, recommit, and start on your path again.

Do the Thing

I can’t tell you what the “thing” is. I don’t know. Only you know. It’s something personal, kept close to the heart. Do whatever it is that has been on you heart and leave behind the naysayers, toxicity and doubt. Whether that be starting a new hobby, pursuing a passion, or moving across the world. What ever it is, that you thought you couldn’t do- do it!

I only have eight here, but there are more that can be added to this list to show yourself some love. In February, it’s easy to fall in to a melancholy wheel; but you musts remember that love is not a bargaining chip, reward, or prize. Love is for love’s sake and the first place it’s with is with yourself. So you will always have it.

What are some ways you show yourself love?
